Obama Fires Up His Panic Machine

President Barack Obama used his weekly radio address to engage in some political gamesmanship while calling for an end to political gamesmanship. Desperate to look like he's doing anything in light of yesterday's horrendous jobs report, the president used this morning's speech to once again claim there is a crisis looming and the Surface Transportation Bill will be allowed to expire putting 1 million workers in danger of losing their jobs if Congress fails to act. But the deadline for extension is weeks away and work on it is already well underway.
Obama Dodges Another Chance To Lead

With the nation teetering on the brink of a double dip recession, President Barack Obama returned from his $50,000 a week vacation and delivered his weekly radio address. There was no mention of his promised new ideas for job growth and helping the poor and middle class. There was no comment on the re-estimated 0.7% economic growth for the first half of the year. Instead, there was a seemingly benign attempt to use the upcoming anniversary of the September 11 attacks to encourage Americans to participate in a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Dueling rallies in Washington DC may be more exciting than another speech from a politician. The heated debate over building an Islamic Center near Ground Zero may be more inspiring than economic policies. But this week's GOP radio address delivered by Florida's Republican candidate for US Senate Marco Rubio is definitely worth our attention.
