Did The GOP Estabishment Just Blink?
By Carole on Jan 23, 2012
In case there was any doubt, the results of Saturday's South Carolina primary proved there's a proxy war going on in the Republican Party. While casual observers may see a battle between former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, the real fight is between a party establishment that believes only a moderate can win in November and conservatives who want to block a moderate from winning the nomination.

How many times will Jon Huntsman remind the audience he has lived overseas? But the more important (and interesting) question that could be answered tonight is: Can former Senator Rick Santorum turn his eight years on the Senate Armed Services Committee and his real world foreign policy experience into serious consideration from Republican primary voters?

Texas Governor Rick Perry provided a glimpse of the kind of president he might be when he skipped the chance to participate in a nationally televised political forum to do his job. Mr. Perry was slated to appear with other GOP presidential contenders at Senator Jim DeMint's (R-South Carolina) Palmetto Freedom Forum on Labor Day, but instead he rushed back to work as a roaring wildfire raced across Central Texas.
