Obamacare Supporters Can't Turn A Win Into A Win

In the aftermath of their Supreme Court victory, supporters of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare) are lamenting over their inability to sell the law to the American people. According to a recent poll, only 34 percent approve of Obamacare while 48 percent disapprove and that was before the Supreme Court affirmed that it is one of the biggest tax increases in history.

GOP presidential contender Rick Perry has challenged House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California) to a public debate about his Overhaul Washington plan versus the congressional status quo. In a letter to the former Speaker of the House, Governor Perry writes, "I think it would be a tremendous service to the American people to see a public airing of these differences." He may be onto something.

The national unemployment rate is over 9 percent and over 45 percent of the unemployed (that's 6.2 million Americans) have been out of work for more than 6 months - a higher percentage than during the Great Depression. (source) But President Obama barely acknowledged these painful economic facts dismissing them with a single line in his latest campaign speech: "There are always going to be bumps on the road to recovery."
