Obama Hopes While Iranians Risk Their Lives

When candidate Barack Obama promised "Hope & Change" he forgot to mention the hope part would be his foreign policy. Iranian security forces once again beat anti-government protesters on Wednesday, violently attacking citizens who dared to speak against their oppressive government. Even those who simply marched silently wearing the green scarves supporting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's opposition were at risk.

The protests in Iran are growing. Today hundreds of thousands took to the streets of Tehran to mourn the deaths of those killed in the post election protests and to continue to protest the results of the recent election. People who have lived their entire lives under the Iranian theocracy where the slightest dissent is met with swift and often lethal punishment are standing up and demanding freedom over tyranny. They are risking everything to make their voices heard to the Mullahs and the world. Meanwhile in the safety and comfort of the White House, Barack Obama is voting "present".
We Hear You, Iran

As Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dismissed protests against his disputed re-election as "passions after a soccer match," thousands of his rival's supporters bellowed "death to the dictator" from their rooftops and balconies. (source) Foreign news services are claiming that the Iranian government is preventing their reporters from covering the protests; jamming their broadcast signals and expelling journalists from the country. (source) It all seems eerily reminiscent of the last Iranian revolt in 1979.
