Many historians believe that John Adams suffered from bi-polar disorder. Franklin Pierce had a lifelong struggle with alcoholism. There are strong indications in his own writings that Abraham Lincoln suffered from clinical depression. Nixon most likely suffered from paranoid personality disorder. It is impossible to know for sure what inner demons and/or mental defects were present in the hearts and minds of these deceased US presidents. But perhaps they, and some of their modern day counterparts, demonstrate the need for a formal look at the mental fitness of those who want the job.

The Associated Press is reporting that the message President Obama wants to convey in his upcoming State of the Union Address is "Yes, I get it." This in response to the repeated message sent by voters in recent New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts elections not to mention the dismal poll numbers for Mr. Obama's proposed policies and his plummeting job approval rating. But actions speak louder than words and while his speech writers diligently work on a way to make it sound like the president is listening to the American people, David Plouffe will be taking on an expanded role as an outside adviser to the White House, according to sources familiar with the plan. The White House has now acknowledged that people across the country received unsolicited e-mails from the administration last week about health care reform. Those unsolicited e-mails have been adding fuel to the fire started when the administration asked citizens to forward "fishy" e-mails they received that were critical of the president's health care reform legislation. Many people felt those forwarded e-mails were becoming the foundation for some kind of enemies list - a list of e-mail addresses of administration opponents who could be illegally targeted with political propaganda (or worse) by the White House.
