Meet Mike Niecestro, the self-proclaimed "disgusted Republican" who is planning to enter the race for US Senate in Illinois as an Independent. With the filing deadline to run less than a week away, the conservative Mr. Niecestro says he already has the 25,000 signatures needed to get on the ballot, will spend at least a million of his own dollars on the campaign, has raised an additional $100,000 and has a website to promote his candidacy.

Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Connecticut) has agreed to hold a Greenwich fundraiser for the politically dead man walking, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada). Yes, the same Joe Lieberman who was dumped by the Democratic Party and who then defeated their anti-war candidate as an Independent. The same Joe Lieberman Senator Reid said double crossed him on health care reform just weeks ago. That Joe Lieberman will be trading on his own good name and reputation to help one of President Obama's chief henchmen dip into the deep pockets of Connecticut’s elite. (source)

It doesn't seem to matter whether or not Florida Governor Charlie Crist (R) decides to abandon the Republican party and continue his run for US Senate as an Independent. Down by over 20 points in the GOP primary match up versus State House Speaker Marco Rubio, a new poll out today has Mr. Rubio up 37% to 30% over an Independent Crist in a three-way race with Democrat Kendrick Meek in third place at 22%. Florida Governor and Republican candidate for US Senate Charlie Crist was asked today about an Independent bid should he lose the upcoming Republican primary to Marco Rubio. His response: "I'm not thinking about that today. We'll look at that later on." (source)
