Shortly after noon today, President Barack Obama is expected to announce that religious employers will not have to cover birth control for their employees. His anticipated compromise solution may or may not quell the objections of those who considered the new requirement to be an attack on religious freedom. But regardless of the immediate concerns about this particular provision of the president's health care law, it is indisputable that any concession he might make is the result of a political backlash that threatened his chances at reelection. This begs the question once set free from concerns over his own job security, will this president ever reject a federal power grab in favor of religious freedom or any other of those pesky liberties afforded by the Constitution?

Try to act surprised. A new report by economic experts at the Obama administration's own Health and Human Services Department says the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) will increase the nation's health care costs instead of bringing them down. According to the analysis the law not only fails to control costs, the Medicare cuts it contains may be unrealistic and unsustainable, driving about 15% of hospitals into the red and "possibly jeopardizing access" to care for seniors. President Obama and his Democratic machine has spent the last few months forcing their idea of health care reform through the legislative process. Two of the major selling points used again and again were coverage for those with pre-existing conditions and the guarantee that sick children would be covered almost immediately by the new law. Just two days after the president signed his monstrous health care overhaul into law, we find out he was not even telling the truth about that. (source)
