There was a rare chance for some bipartisanship mixed with some sincere debate in Washington next week when a defense policy bill will be taken up by the Senate. This type of bill usually passes with plenty of support from both sides of the aisle but the inclusion of the repeal of the military's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy left open some uncertainty as that important and relative issue is to be debated and hopefully resolved. But just to make sure that chaos ensued and in a desperate attempt to put politics over doing his actual job, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) says he will insert a controversial immigration measure into the bill.

On January 7, the day after he entered the US Senate race, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D) proudly stated, "I've never taken PAC money, and I have rejected all special interest money." Now that he has accepted almost half a million dollars from Political Action Committees and special interest groups, his Republican opponent Linda McMahon has released a new ad asking, "How can he fight special interests if they're paying for his campaign?"

Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Connecticut) has agreed to hold a Greenwich fundraiser for the politically dead man walking, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada). Yes, the same Joe Lieberman who was dumped by the Democratic Party and who then defeated their anti-war candidate as an Independent. The same Joe Lieberman Senator Reid said double crossed him on health care reform just weeks ago. That Joe Lieberman will be trading on his own good name and reputation to help one of President Obama's chief henchmen dip into the deep pockets of Connecticut’s elite. (source)

Did Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) really believe he was special? Did he think he was the one and only person who could sell his political soul to the Obama machine and not get thrown under it the first time it served the administration's purposes? In the past few days he has learned he's no less expendable to the president and his cronies than any incumbent Democrat who has sacrificed their career for the Obama agenda.

The political future for those named Reid and running for office in Nevada looks very bleak indeed. In the latest Mason-Dixon poll, Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) is trailing his most likely general election opponent, former chairman of the Nevada Republican Party Sue Lowden, by a 46% to 38% margin. (source) The senator's son, gubernatorial candidate Rory Reid (D), is far behind his likely Republican opponent, former federal judge Brian Sandoval, by 15 points (50% to 35%). (source)
