The Three Problems With Obama's Vacation

As President Barack Obama departs on his 10 day Matha's Vineyard vacation, let me first say that I do not begrudge he and his family some time away together and I believe that no matter where he may be the US president is 'always on the job'. But three things about this particular president and this specific vacation prove that, despite his occasional references in campaign speeches, he is completely oblivious to the real economic suffering most Americans currently endure.

First there were emerging details (and price tags) from First Lady Michelle Obama's trip to Spain. Then the inside scoop of President Obama's birthday celebration in Chicago with gal-pal Oprah Winfrey and others. Now we hear how the president enjoyed a weekend of golfing with friends and playing basketball with current and former pro athletes. In an effort to legitimize using his position to indulge in childlike fantasies, the basketball game was played in front of a group of US troops injured in action.
Gulf Coast Restoration Just Another Empty Promise?

According to the Obama administration, formulating a long-term Gulf Coast restoration plan can be done in someone's spare time. And all the duties of the Secretary of the Navy can be accomplished in less time than it takes the average person to do their full-time job. That's the message coming from the White House in response to complaints that current Navy Secretary and former Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus will keep his current position even after President Barack Obama chose him to develop that restoration plan.
Oil Spill Speech Just Obama's Latest Infomercial

On Monday President Barack Obama named the last members of his commission to investigate the BP Gulf of Mexico oil disaster. On Tuesday he announced that on Wednesday he "will meet with the chairman of BP and inform him that he is to set aside whatever resources are required to compensate the workers and business owners who have been harmed as a result of his company's recklessness." Why appoint a commission or even have a meeting if the verdict is already in?
Obama Is Kicking The Gulf Coast's Ass

President Barack Obama's most recent piece of performance art has him saying his meetings on the oil spill crisis are to figure out "whose ass to kick." According to Louisiana's LaFource Parish President Charlotte Randolph, he's already started kicking and the target is not the hindquarters of any oil company exec, contractor or corrupt government official - it's the people he's supposed to be helping.
