It's Not A Good Time To Be A Reid
By Carole on Apr 11, 2010
The political future for those named Reid and running for office in Nevada looks very bleak indeed. In the latest Mason-Dixon poll, Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) is trailing his most likely general election opponent, former chairman of the Nevada Republican Party Sue Lowden, by a 46% to 38% margin. (source) The senator's son, gubernatorial candidate Rory Reid (D), is far behind his likely Republican opponent, former federal judge Brian Sandoval, by 15 points (50% to 35%). (source)
Massachusetts Senate Race Is Getting Ugly
By Carole on Jan 13, 2010
The special election campaign in Massachusetts is getting more interesting by the minute. What was supposed to be an easy win for the Democrat, state Attorney General Martha Coakley, in the race to fill Ted Kennedy's Senate seat is getting tighter and uglier.
What Really Matters To Obama
By Carole on Oct 23, 2009
It's not the election in Afghanistan that is the reason President Obama is putting off vitally important military decisions - it's the gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. In less than two weeks voters in those states, which solidly backed Candidate Obama one year ago, are very close to electing Republican governors. If that happens, every Democrat up for re-election in the House and Senate will turn on the Obama agenda in favor of their own political ambitions. The president knows this very well and is desperately trying to avoid giving far left Democrats in those states a reason to stay home on November 3.
Keep Your Eye On New Jersey
By Carole on Jul 21, 2009
In a usually reliable blue state, there are strong indicators that the first major election in the Obama era could go very very red. Incumbent Jon Corzine is being strongly challenged by Republican and former US Attorney Christopher Christie. The most recent polls have Mr. Christie way ahead despite some recent campaign help from President Obama. The president spoke at a Corzine rally calling the Governor "an ally with the Obama administration in helping us build a national recovery plan." (source) That may have won cheers from the partisan crowd but the economically suffering people of New Jersey are not so sure they want an ally of this administration in Trenton.
