Worshipping At The Altar Of Obama

Since resigning from controversial Pastor Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church during the 2008 campaign, the Obama family has chosen not to attend regular religious services. In fact the first family has attended Sunday services only three times in Washington since the president's inauguration and while they initially said they would find a local church to attend they have cited concerns about crowds and displacing regular worshippers as the reason they have not done so. (source) But on this particular Sunday, President Obama found a worthwhile reason to go to church: he got to make it all about him.

The challenges our nation is currently facing make these words from our 40th president especially meaningful even more than a quarter century since he wrote them:
Two hundred years ago, the Congress of the United States issued a Thanksgiving Proclamation stating that it was "the indispensable duty of all nations" to offer both praise and supplication to God.
