The War The White House Really Wants To Fight
By Carole on Oct 21, 2009 | Comment »
Still no announcement on when (or if) President Obama will heed his general's recommendation and send more US troops to Afghanistan but his war against a media outlet is still going strong. Joining the fight in the war of words between the Obama administration and Fox News Channel is ABC's Jake Tapper and the perpetually inept White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. The latest battle occurred during Mr. Gibb's daily briefing on Tuesday:
It's Tough To See Through All This Clarity
By Carole on Aug 17, 2009 | Comment »
First Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius makes the rounds of the Sunday morning talk shows claiming that a government run health insurance option "is not an essential part" of reform. Then an administration official (who asked not to be identified in exchange for providing clarity) said that Secretary Sebelius "misspoke", that the White House did not intend to change its messaging and that the public option is not, in the president's view, the most important element of the reform package. The Obama Doctrine - Have A Beer

Theodore Roosevelt had "speak softly and carry a big stick". For Harry Truman it was "the buck stops here". John F. Kennedy urged us to "Ask what you can do for your country". Will Barack Obama be remembered for the iconic phrase "Let's have a beer"?
Is Hillary Clinton Poised For A Comeback?
By Carole on Jul 16, 2009 | Comment »
If the Secretary of State gives a major foreign policy speech and no media outlets broadcast it, did she make a sound? Hillary Clinton gave a long-scheduled speech yesterday focusing on Iran and North Korea but the live coverage at that moment went to President Obama who was making an unscheduled speech on health care reform. Given Mr. Obama's many foreign trips during his young presidency and his appointment of special envoys for most of the major hotspots around the world, one has to wonder if Secretary Clinton is truly the nation's top diplomat and if she has any real power at all.
Say It Again, Sonia

By now everyone has heard Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor's infamous quote from a 2001 speech she gave at the law school of the University of California, Berkeley:
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life," (source)
