Change Now Means Not Obama
By Carole on Feb 22, 2010
The trouble with hope and change is that it only works for the unelected. After you get the job you have to provide more than hope, and change is suddenly defined as "not you". Since President Obama took office, each time American voters have gotten the opportunity they have voted for a different kind of change. Yet the president and his fellow Democrats continue to believe that if they just change the wrapping paper, we'll suddenly want what they're offering.
Massachusetts Senate Race Is Getting Ugly
By Carole on Jan 13, 2010
The special election campaign in Massachusetts is getting more interesting by the minute. What was supposed to be an easy win for the Democrat, state Attorney General Martha Coakley, in the race to fill Ted Kennedy's Senate seat is getting tighter and uglier.
Massachusetts Republicans Fight On
By Carole on Sep 16, 2009
Legislative leaders in Massachusetts believe they have enough votes to give Governor Deval Patrick (D) the power to appoint an interim US senator to Ted Kennedy's vacant seat. The death of Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) takes the senatorial succession law of Massachusetts out of the hypothetical. Last week Senator Kennedy petitioned Governor Deval Patrick (D) to change state law to allow a speedy replacement for him. Current law requires a special election be held within five months. Bear in mind that that current state law was changed in 2004 when Democrats feared then-Governor Mitt Romney (R) would appoint a Republican replacement to fill Senator John Kerry's (D-Massachusetts) seat should he win the presidential election.
The Democrats' Favorite Strategy: When You're Losing Change The Rules
By Carole on Aug 21, 2009
In a note to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, cancer-stricken Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) has asked that state law be changed to allow a speedy replacement if it becomes necessary for him to surrender his seat. Current law requires a special election to be held within five months should a senator be unable to complete his or her term and a months-long vacancy could deny Democrats a crucial vote on President Barack Obama's health care reform legislation.
