According to a new Pew Research study, media coverage of President/Candidate Barack Obama has become decidedly negative. Over the last five months, only 9% of the news coverage about him has registered as positive while 34% has been negative (57% has been neutral coverage of events).

With little doubt about the outcome of tomorrow's elections, the speculation turns to what the reaction will be to the historic GOP victories. Will President Barack Obama shift toward the political center? Will all those shiny new Republican lawmakers keep their campaign promises to shrink government and control spending? Will those in the Tea Party movement remain engaged and involved once this battle has been won? All those answers will come in time but what we'll probably find out instantly is will the mainstream media abandon its self-assigned role of liberal cheerleader and return to honest reporting?
Is The Media Ready To Start Working Again?

The Congressional recess, Obama family vacation and general lull in the political news cycle that August brings is providing a natural break for the US media. Just like summer vacation can mark the end a student slacking their way through 7th grade and beginning the 8th with a renewed drive to succeed, there is an opportunity here for a fresh start; for reporters to wake up from the daze they've been in since the November election and actually get back to doing their jobs.
From Objective To Biased To Weapon?

Recent charges about a member of the Obama administration using the White House press corps as a weapon has me longing for the days of real journalism. Forget the investigative reporting prowess of Woodward and Bernstein, I'd be glad to go back to the self-promotion of Sam Donaldson and Dan Rather over what some reporters are doing now.
