Will The Mainstream Media Join In The Vetting Of Obama?

Shortly before his untimely death, conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart vowed that during the current election cycle, President Barack Obama would finally be vetted. Sadly Mr. Breitbart is no longer here to keep that promise and the mainstream media continues to obfuscate our Candidate-in-Chief's past, but others are taking on the task of digging up the truth. This week the buried facts concern Mr. Obama's college transcripts and an alleged incident with his 'New York girlfriend' Genevieve Cook described in detail in his autobiography.

Conservative blogger Brooks Bayne is responsible for a new website which accuses the media of failure and offers a reward for a future measure of success:
You've had over three years to vet President Barack Obama. Yet in three years in office and over a year of campaigning beforehand, you have either been oddly uninterested or purposefully ignorant of Barack Obama's educational history. You were, however, quite interested in George Bush's transcripts.
This uncharacteristic absence of curiosity about an American president alarms us. At $15 trillion, our nation's debt is the highest it has ever been - and it keeps growing. We're not convinced that Barack is as smart as you media elitists keep insisting he is.
We therefore offer in reward $10,000 to anyone who provides the college transcripts of President Barack Obama.
Will the added financial incentive encourage any journalists to actually do their job? Or will the added exposure of this issue encourage the Obama campaign to finally release his transcripts from Occidental, Columbia or Harvard? Stay tuned!
Meanwhile, Obama biographer David Maraniss has unearthed at least a minor deception and at most a complete fabrication in the president's autobiography.
"In Dreams from My Father, Obama chose to emphasize a racial chasm that unavoidably separated him from the woman he described as his New York girlfriend," Maraniss writes, before offering a passage from the book in which they go to see a play by a black playwright. He continues:
None of this happened with Genevieve. She remembered going to the theater only once with Barack, and it was not to see a work by a black playwright. When asked about this decades later, during a White House interview, Obama acknowledged that the scene did not happen with Genevieve. "It is an incident that happened," he said. But not with her. He would not be more specific, but the likelihood is that it happened later, when he lived in Chicago. "That was not her," he said. "That was an example of compression I was very sensitive in my book not to write about my girlfriends, partly out of respect for them. So that was a consideration. I thought that [the anecdote involving the reaction of a white girlfriend to the angry black play] was a useful theme to make about sort of the interactions that I had in the relationships with white girlfriends. And so, that occupies, what, two paragraphs in the book? My attitude was it would be dishonest for me not to touch on that at all … so that was an example of sort of editorially how do I figure that out?"
Dreams from My Father was first published in 1995 and re-published in 2004. Yet in the all the years and political campaigns since, no one in the mainstream media bothered to verify the most basic elements of Mr. Obama's story - with whom and where the "useful” event supposedly took place.
Obviously Mr. Bayne is correct in his claim that the media has failed. The question is with 6 months remaining in the current campaign, will they finally do their collective job and vet Mr. Obama as they would any other presidential candidate?
