Texas Governor and GOP presidential contender Rick Perry is trying to turn his poor performances in recent debates into an asset with a new campaign ad in Iowa. The money line: "If you're looking for a slick politician or a guy with great teleprompter skills, we already have that and he's destroying our economy. I'm a doer not a talker." In the ad, Governor Perry goes on to tout his successful record saying, "In Texas we created 40% of the new jobs in the entire country since June of 2009. And we cut a record $15 billion from our state budget. Now they say we can't do that in Washington. Well, they're wrong, and they need to go."
The latest poll shows Mr. Perry currently tied for fifth place in Iowa with the support of only 7% of likely caucus goers. But ads like this and his $15 million war chest just might boost those poll numbers fast.
