There's more news than just a new tax plan coming out of Rick Perry's presidential campaign this week. In addition to his highly anticipated flat tax proposal to be announced tomorrow, the Texas governor and former front runner in the GOP presidential sweepstakes is shaking up his campaign staff big time.
Continued...
First, consultants Curt Anderson, Nelson Warfield and Tony Fabrizio - the polling, strategy and ad team from Florida Governor Rick Scott's successful 2010 campaign - have joined Team Perry.
Now comes word that Joe Allbaugh, George W. Bush's campaign manager in 2000, will join the Perry campaign as well. Paul Burka, Senior Executive Editor at Texas Monthly writes, "I can't imagine that Allbaugh would come on board if he were not going to be in charge, which means that David Carney may be taking a back seat...The Perry inner circle just doesn’t have enough talent or experience to run a national campaign. Allbaugh has run one."
Could these personnel moves along with an economic growth plan that includes a Steve-Forbes-inspired flat tax put Governor Perry back in serious contention for the GOP nomination? Will he once again become the true conservative in the field with real executive experience in government? Stay tuned.
