Obama Blames Partisans Not Policies

Note to President Barack Obama: Telling the American people how to feel is not leadership. In his weekly radio address today, the president claimed it is "partisanship and gridlock" that have "hindered our efforts to grow the economy," that we have a right to be frustrated and we should let members of Congress know that we are. In short, the weak economy his policies have made so much worse is the fault of his political opposition so please join him in blaming them for his failure.

Mr. Obama also claimed that America voted for a divided government so that it would compromise, create jobs and get our fiscal house in order. In fact, the 'shellacking' of 2010 was a strong message to this administration:
- That there should be no compromise when it comes to government spending sprees and unsustainable entitlement programs.
- That government does not create jobs and it should stop hampering those who do.
- That our fiscal house should be put in order by seriously and significantly lowering our nation's debt which has risen by 25% while this president has been in office.
As Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pennsylvania) said in today's Republican weekly address, "Clearly, the policies of this administration are not working...With so many burdens and the threat of new obstacles in the future, it’s not hard to understand why job creators are leery of assuming the risk and costs that come with starting a new business or expanding."
Yet President Obama continues to insist that if those who oppose his policies overlook the fact that they have already failed and let him continue on toward more and more failure, our economy will somehow improve.
Also in his address this morning, the president stated that, "while there’s nothing wrong with our country, there is something wrong with our politics, and that’s what we’ve got to fix."
Reminiscent of his nonsensical comment after the nation's credit downgrade ("we've always been and always will be a triple-A country"), saying "there's nothing wrong with our country" reflects a seemingly new-found belief in American exceptionalism by Mr. Obama. But not only is this in stark contrast with his desire to fundamentally transform the country and his Apologize for America tour, it is obviously insincere because it is untrue.
Of course there are things wrong with our country and even the most patriotic American will acknowledge that. We have problems to solve and challenges to face and real changes to make that could make our great nation even greater. As former President Bill Clinton said, "There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America"
To claim that there is nothing wrong with our country is either a frightening display of ignorance or another attempt by President Obama to get the American people to feel the same anger at his political opposition that he feels. He is not ignorant.
