More Threats, Lies & Video Ads

In his latest attempt to appear relevant in the debt ceiling negotiations, President Barack Obama took to the podium again this morning and declared that there are "plenty of ways out of this mess." As usual he offered no details on any of the ways that would supposedly escape his veto pen. Meanwhile, the dues of some hard working people are being used by their union bosses to help spread the president's lies, class warfare message and bogus threats against our most vulnerable citizens.

The progressive group Americans United for Change has teamed up with AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees), the NEA (National Education Association) and the SEIU (Service Employees International Union) to produce a new ad which features a ticking stop watch and the claim that "Social Security checks, veterans benefits, military - all could be at risk" and that " if the check you or your family depends on doesn't arrive, thank (insert name of specifically targeted Republican lawmaker here)."
Rather than confront these lies directly and get the clear and truthful message of fiscal responsibility to the American people, some in the GOP establishment are wasting time and energy publicly attacking their fellow Republicans. This week Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) referred to the ideas of tea-party-affiliated lawmakers, such as linking a raise in the debt ceiling to a balanced budget amendment, as "foolish" and "bizarro".
Of course this public dissent between the old moderate guard and the young conservative guns of the GOP is being pounced on by the opposition. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) took to the Senate floor this morning and urged conservative Republicans to abandon their allegiance to the tea party ideas of smaller, more responsible government and "go back to being the party of Ronald Reagan."
The latest word from Capitol Hill is that despite the lies from the left and a few on the right who didn't get the 2010 election message, the latest incarnation of the Boehner debt reduction bill will be passed by the House of Representatives today. That will leave it up to the Democrats in the Senate and President Obama to decide if they will stand in the way of responsibly raising the nation's debt ceiling and miss their own bogus deadline to default.
