Now Obama Seeks Common Ground?

In his weekly radio address today, President Barack Obama claimed "it's the fundamental responsibility of all who hold elective office to seek out common ground." Then he complained about comments by some of his political opponents and said "we need to put this kind of partisanship aside - win, lose, or draw." This from the man who, just days after his inauguration, responded to Republican concerns over his planned explosion of government spending with the words "I won."

As he is about to lose his rubber stamp congress and can no longer act as if the majority of the American people don't disapprove of his job performance, Mr. Obama is suddenly all about seeking common ground. For the past two years he has ridiculed and then rolled over the people he has sworn to serve, conspiring with his congressional cronies to force obscenely expensive and hugely unpopular legislation down our throats and has said time and again that given the chance he would keep on taxing and spending without limits.
Just days ago he was encouraging Hispanic voters to "punish our enemies" and "reward our friends who stand with us" and today we are to believe that he sincerely wants to put partisanship aside?
Just hours after his weekly address was broadcasted, Mr. Obama was back on the campaign trail warning that if Republicans prevail in Tuesday's elections all the progress of his first two years in office "can be rolled back." (source) What he still doesn't understand is what he calls progress the majority of Americans call unaffordable, unsustainable, job-killing federal power grabs and the desire to roll them back is exactly what is fueling the expected Republican victories.
It is President Obama's own staunch refusal to seek out common ground with Republicans, and more importantly the majority of Americans, that is coming back to haunt him. He cannot expect those he has ignored for two years to suddenly compromise their own principles to include his already failed ideas.
