Kerry Is Two Years Behind The Times

According to Senator John Kerry (D-Massachusetts), the reason his fellow Democrats are facing what could be unprecedented losses in the upcoming mid-term elections is that the majority of voters are uninformed, easily swayed idiots. He'd be right if he were referring to the elections of 2008 but unfortunately for him and his party, it's 2010.

After touring a Boston hospital yesterday, Mr. Kerry told reporters, "We have an electorate that doesn't always pay that much attention to what's going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what's happening." (source) That perfectly explains how an unqualified, unvetted empty suit like our current president managed to get elected two years ago. A racial novelty and catchy but meaningless phrases like "change we can believe in" enticed millions who didn't want to bother examining the issues to vote for Barack Obama.
To be fair, the Republican Party also pandered to the ill-informed last time around by nominating a candidate simply packaged as a war hero who had no strong stances on the issues. Senator John McCain tried to explain away his middle of the road positions as the traits of a maverick when in fact they exemplified the go-along-to-get-along mentality that enticed millions of conservative voters to stay home on Election Day.
Those disappointed conservatives, be they Republicans, Independents or even Democrats, are not staying home this time. And they are not the type to fall for simple slogans. They have participated in, supported or at the very least agreed with the Tea Party movement's ideals of smaller, more responsible government and have turned into the worst nightmare of career politicians like Senator Kerry.
What we have now is a very large segment of the electorate that is paying very close attention who will elect conservative candidates and then hold them responsible once they begin to govern. Meanwhile, most of those willfully blind voters who were fooled last time by catchy slogans and empty promises are back to not paying attention and sitting this one out.
