Obama To "Help" Blumenthal In Connecticut

While many Democratic candidates are finding reasons not to be in the same city with President Barack Obama let alone on the same stage, Connecticut Attorney General and US Senate Candidate Richard Blumenthal is just desperate enough to accept the president's brand of toxic help. Mr. Obama will travel to the Nutmeg State on September 16 to campaign with Mr. Blumenthal before attending a DNC fundraiser. Considering Mr. Blumenthal's lead over Republican Linda McMahon has plummeted from a robust 30 points earlier this year to a much slimmer 7 point margin, can the Obama Curse make things any worse?

While the president has done a good job at private fundraisers for his fellow Democrats (at least until his videotaped partisan barbs at those events make it to the public at large), his record in races in which he made public campaign appearances is far from stellar. Most notably, Mr. Obama stumped for gubernatorial candidates Jon Corzine (New Jersey) and Creigh Deeds (Virginia) and senatorial candidate Martha Coakley (Massachusetts). All three lost proving that the president's political capital is non-transferable.
Since those embarrassing defeats late last year, Mr. Obama's job approval has dropped even in the traditionally blue state of Connecticut and many fellow Democrats are trying to distance themselves from his failed agenda. Yet Mr. Blumenthal in a statement released today said, "I look forward to welcoming the President of the United States to Connecticut. It is an honor to have his support and his assistance." (source)
An honor, perhaps. But most likely not much assistance.
