Crist Flip Flops Yet Again

Florida Governor and US Senate candidate Charlie Crist is getting so good at changing positions on an issue, he can now do it within the same televised interview. Appearing on CNN's State of the Union program today, the no-party-affiliated candidate was asked if he would return campaign contributions given by Republican donors before he abandoned the GOP. Mr. Crist's first response: "we'll give it back to people who had asked for it." But just a moment later he said, "People gave money to a good cause, I'm going to spend it on a good cause and that's how I feel about it." (source)

Mr. Crist refused refund requests from those donors months ago but the question has popped up again since he agreed to refund a $9,600 contribution to his recently indicted political ally Jim Greer. Former state GOP Chairman Greer, who the governor put in charge of the state party's organization in 2006, is facing six felony charges including organized fraud and money laundering and needs the cash to help pay his legal fees. This we'll-give-it-back/I’m-going-to-spend-it instantaneous flip-flop is just the latest example of Mr. Crist's lack of character, honesty and core beliefs as he tries to play both sides of the political fence to save his fading career. In the same CNN interview, the governor refused to state which party he would caucus with if he won the Senate race, stuck with his most recent position that he would have voted against Obamacare (less than a week ago he said he would have voted for it) and refused to say whether he had changed his opinion of Sarah Palin - in 2008 Governor Crist said the then-vice Presidential nominee "would do a great job" if she had to run the country. Of course the one issue on which Mr. Crist has remained consistent is his unwavering support for President Barack Obama's $800 billion stimulus bill that was promised to keep the unemployment rate below 8%. In today's interview, the governor latched onto Mr. Obama's 'Things Could Be Worse' Strategy by saying, “the unemployment rate would be even higher than it is without that help."
Luckily Florida voters are paying attention and can easily see each radical change Charlie Crist makes every time his political career is about to come to a screeching halt. As the first post-primary poll of likely voters shows, Republican Marco Rubio holds a double digit lead over Mr. Crist (40% - 30%) with Democrat Kendrick Meek earning 21% of the support. (source)
