House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) is already practicing for her new job. Once the American people vote her party out of power and, in effect, vote her out of the Speaker's job; Madame Pelosi is evidently ready to begin a new career as one of those tacky carnival fortune tellers/con artists who claim to see nothing but great fortune in your future as they're picking your pocket. Imagine the rubes on the midway's delight when they hear things like what she told potential Democratic donors today.

In an e-mail to Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee supporters, Speaker Pelosi wrote "Here is what will happen in November. Democrats will keep control of the House. Period." She then goes on to ask for "$1 Million in grassroots contributions to send a powerful message to the media and to the world that we will keep control of the House and we will continue America's New Direction!" Could Ms. Pelosi have missed the latest Bloomberg National Poll which found that almost two-thirds of Americans feel the nation is headed in the wrong direction (source) or is she just so desperate to counteract White House Press Secretary Robert Gibb's uncharacteristic truth telling that "there is no doubt" Republicans could win control of the House in November?

Included in Madame Pelosi's recent fundraising pitch is the line, "Your dollars help our great Democrats fight back against Republican attacks, place strategic early media buys to get their messages out, and most of all, work to turn out every Democratic voter on Election Day." Unfortunately for her and her party, those dollars will not turn what she calls "America's New Direction" into somewhere the American people actually want to go.
