Is Big Bad Blue California Turning Red?

If the midterm elections were held today, Republican Meg Whitman would be the next Governor of California and Republican Carly Fiorina would be the state's next senator. According to a new CBS poll, Ms. Fiorina leads incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California) by a slim but measurable two point margin and Ms. Whitman's lead over State Attorney General Jerry Brown (D) has grown to seven points with 46% of likely voters supporting her and only 39% supporting Mr. Brown. The poll also found twice as many Democrats as Republicans in the Golden State are planning to cross over and vote for the opposing party. That's not surprising since only 40% of respondents have a favorable view of the Democratic Party leader, President Barack Obama, and the upcoming elections are widely seen as a referendum on the far-left Obama agenda.
The latest ad from the Whitman campaign highlights Mr. Brown's Obama-like connections using screen shots of recent pro-Brown ads to show that the same unions and special interests that support the White House are firmly behind Mr. Brown:
Meanwhile the Fiorina campaign doesn't have to lift a finger to connect Senator Boxer with the unpopular and failing administration. Both President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have traveled to California for well-publicized appearances at Boxer fundraisers and the Senator keeps reminding voters every chance she gets of her strong and continued support for the president's agenda - especially his $862 billion non-stimulating stimulus bill. Of course there are almost four months before the midterm elections and anything can happen in politics. But these kinds of poll numbers in a state known as one of the biggest, baddest and bluest in the country seem to corroborate the growing sentiment that we're going to need an even stronger term than "Republican Revolution" for what may be achieved in November.
