President Barack Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel has added to the criticism of BP chief executive Tony Hayward's decision to attend a yacht race this weekend while the oil crisis in the Gulf goes on. But if, as Mr. Emanuel says, Mr. Hayward has committed yet another in a "long line of PR gaffes" by attending that race, can't the same be true of President Obama's recent golf outings, parties and attendance of a Washington Nationals baseball game as the oil continues to flow?

Mocking the BP executive's recent statement that he wished the crisis were over so could have his life back, Mr. Emanuel told ABC's This Week, "He's got his life back, as he would say." Mr. Emanuel also said the focus should stay on capping the leaking well and helping the people of the Gulf region. (source)
If he truly believes that's where the focus should stay, how does Mr. Emanuel defend his own boss's numerous personal and political breaks from the oil crisis over the past two months? This recent video from the Republican National Committee highlights the multiple golf outings, concerts, a family vacation and a date night with his wife that President Obama has engaged in since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and tens of millions of gallons of oil bean leaking into the Gulf and destroying the lives and livelihoods of Gulf Coast residents.
Last night President Obama and his family attended the Washington Nationals/Chicago White Sox baseball game and he left the White House at 1:00pm today for another round of golf at the Andrews Air Force base course. (source) Will his chief of staff admit that these outings were yet 2 more in a "long line of PR gaffes" by the president and will he remind his boss that the focus should stay on capping the leaking well and helping the people of the Gulf region? Not likely.
While Mr. Hayward’s yacht racing today most definitely deserves criticism, the recreational activities of President Obama during this crisis are at least equally disgraceful.
