Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) easily won his Republican primary on Tuesday and his Democratic opponent in November's general election will be someone virtually no one has ever heard of.
Competeing for the Democratic nomination were Vic Rawl and Alvin Greene. Mr. Rawl, a 64-year-old former judge and state legislator, had the backing of the local Democratic establishment, raised over $230,000 for his campaign and was so sure of a primary victory that he had a fundraising event scheduled for Thursday. Mr. Greene, a 32-year-old unemployed military veteran raised no money during the campaign and had no signs or website. Mr. Greene defeated Mr. Rawl by a 16 point margin. (source)
