Now Everyone Is Too Dumb For Obama

From the beginning, the Obama administration's way of dealing with criticism of the president's policies and decisions has been to claim that whoever is criticizing is just too ignorant to understand how brilliant President Obama is. It didn't matter whether it was the majority of the American people or political opponents, the counter attack was always the same. Now the tactic is spreading to his own supporters.

Democratic strategist and Louisiana resident James Carville recently attacked Mr. Obama's response (or lack of one) to the oil spill in the Gulf, "It just looks like he's not involved in this," Carville said Wednesday on ABC's Good Morning America." Visibly agitated he added, "Man, you got to get down here and take control of this, put somebody in charge of this thing and get this moving. We're about to die down here." (source)
The White House reaction: When asked what the president thinks of supporters like Carville's criticism of the administration’s response to the crisis, Obama Press Secretary Robert Gibbs replied, "I don’t think James understands all of what we're doing. I don’t think James understood the facts." (source)
Sound familiar? It should. In his press conference on Thursday, President Obama responded to a similar question by saying, "Those who think that we were either slow in our responses or lacked urgency don't know the facts. This has been our highest priority since this crisis occurred. We understood from day one the potential enormity of this crisis and acted accordingly." (source)
No room for doubt that any criticism is justified; not even an admission that critics may not know the facts because the administration has done a horrendous job of making them available. Nope, we are all just too stupid to know and/or understand the facts.
It's eerily reminiscent of President Obama's words shortly after losing his super majority in the Senate. His attempt to explain why the people of Massachusetts soundly rejected his agenda by electing Scott Brown to the Senate seat long held by Ted Kennedy dripped with the same contempt for the voters as it does now for Mr. Carville and anyone else who dare criticize his efforts in the Gulf. After Senator Brown's victory, Mr. Obama claimed his only error was thinking the American people were smart enough to agree with him. "That I do think is a mistake of mine," he said. "I think the assumption was if I just focus on policy, if I just focus on this provision or that law or if we're making a good rational decision here, then people will get it." (source)
We got it then and we get it now, Mr. President. You're just not doing a good job and more and more Americans - even many in your own party and the formerly adoring mainstream media - are starting to get it every day.
