While some try to rehabilitate the corruption laden reputation of the late Congressman John Murtha (D-Pennsylvania) by naming a Navy ship in his honor, voters in his district are poised to rehabilitate their representation in Washington. The latest poll shows Republican businessman Tim Burns leading his Democratic challenger in the May 18 special election former Murtha aide Mark Critz 46% to 40%. (source) And in typical 'Desperate Democrat' fashion, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has responded with one of the most misleading political ads you'll ever see.

Looks pretty damaging, doesn't it? You would think Mr. Burns's plan is to raise everyone's taxes by 23%, right? The only problem is that's not what Mr. Burns is calling for at all. His proposal is to replace the personal income tax with this national sales tax.
The ad has Ken Hoagland of the Fair Tax Campaign so inflamed by the DCCC's "lie by omission" that he says his organization is planning to get involved in the Critz-Burns race "not out of loyalty to either candidate but to defend the proposed sales tax". Such "distortions," he says, "retard any kind of constructive discussion on how to fix what everyone knows is broken," namely the U.S. tax code. (source)
Look for this despicable ad to create a strong negative backlash against Democrats in general and Mr. Critz in particular and it won't just be from Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional district. This race, this ad and this issue will be getting national attention in the next few weeks and that attention can only help Mr. Burns and other fiscally conservative Republicans.
