Surprise! Obamacare Will Drive Costs Up

Try to act surprised. A new report by economic experts at the Obama administration's own Health and Human Services Department says the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) will increase the nation's health care costs instead of bringing them down. According to the analysis the law not only fails to control costs, the Medicare cuts it contains may be unrealistic and unsustainable, driving about 15% of hospitals into the red and "possibly jeopardizing access" to care for seniors. While the report acknowledged that the new law would add 34 million Americans to the ranks of the insured, it confirms that such an expansion in coverage cannot be achieved without raising costs and cutting essential benefits to seniors.
For over a year we heard President Barack Obama and his cronies claim we needed to accept their vision of health care reform in order to lower health care costs that were spiraling out of control. They guaranteed us that if Obamacare did not become the law of the land, there would be catastrophic results. As the American people objected to the obscene cost and voiced concerns about cuts to Medicare, potential shortages of doctors/hospitals and the increase to the deficit; they were ignored, ridiculed and told they were too stupid to understand the bill.
A few days before the Senate's Christmas Eve vote, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York) said of the objections, "When people see what is in this bill and when people see what it does, they will come around. The reason people are negative is not the substance of the bill, but the fears that the opponents have laid out. When those fears don't materialize, and people see the good in the bill, the numbers are going to go up." (source) Well Senator, people have seen what it does, the opponents were right and the only numbers going up are the costs.
In January, President Obama blamed the lack of support on his error in believing the American people were smart enough to agree with his tax and spend far-left agenda. "That I do think is a mistake of mine," he said. "I think the assumption was if I just focus on policy, if I just focus on this provision or that law or if we're making a good rational decision here, then people will get it." (source) We got it then, Mr. President and we get it now. It is you who either refuses to acknowledge the folly of your ideas or thinks we are foolish enough not to see it.
In light of this HHS report, the majority of the American people and the Republican lawmakers who championed their position have been vindicated. The PPAC Act is bad law that provides less care for a higher price. "A trillion dollars gets spent, and it's no surprise - health care costs are going to go up," said Representative Dave Camp (R-Michigan), a leading Republican on health care issues. Anyone want to bet Mr. Obama and his cronies will still act surprised as they try to spin the contents of this report as far away from the truth as possible?
