That's not the latest twitterific abbreviation 12 year olds might use when communicating with their BFF's. No, BFD stands for "big f***king deal" as in Mr. Biden's exclamation, "This is a big f***king deal" uttered after he introduced the president at the bill signing last week

The latest fundraising letter from Organizing for America reads in part, "There are things that are a big deal - birthdays, anniversaries, the NCAA Championship game. And then there are things that are a BFD, like delivering health insurance to 32 million Americans." (source)
