Will It Be Pelosicare When It Fails?

As we await the official House vote on Obamacare, President Obama's accomplices in the media are laying the groundwork to rename it Pelosicare. According to an article in this morning's New York Times, when the Democrats lost their supermajority in the Senate it was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) who almost single handedly convinced the president to keep pushing for the comprehensive legislation being voted on today. According to the article, after Senator Scott Brown's victory in Massachusetts, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel was pushing the president to pursue a more incremental health care reform bill. But Speaker Pelosi called the scaled-down plan “kiddie care” and conveyed her frustration to the president. Aides to Mr. Obama say he needed to hear that Congressional leaders could pass his far-reaching plan and evidently he got the assurances he needed and went all-in on Obamacare.
So why this sudden expose by the very liberal New York Times? Why, on what could be the morning of President Barack Obama's largest legislative achievement, is the paper shifting a large portion of the credit to Speaker Pelosi? Most likely it's because if the bill does become law, the American people will in very short order be looking not for who gets the credit but for who they should blame.
In a poll released just this morning, 57% believe that if the plan passes, the cost of health care will go up. Only 17% believe the plan will achieve the stated goal of reducing the cost of care. (source) The deficit-neutral claims by the president have become laughable in light of all the fine print and planned "fixes" to the bill. And cost is just the tip of the iceberg. Medical shortages resulting in long waits and rationed care, mandates requiring Americans to purchase insurance whether they want it or not, job losses as a result of more government demands on employers; these are just a few of the inevitable consequences of Obamacare.
No wonder President Obama's pals in the media are trying to give him some preemptive cover for when his momentary success becomes a colossal and long lasting failure.
