As Always It's All About Obama

Another piece of inside information on the backroom Obamacare negotiations has made it outside. During a recent White House meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, President Obama made it clear that this hugely unpopular, obscenely expensive piece of legislation is, of course, all about him.

Caucus member Jose Serrano (D-New York) said, “We went in there already knowing his presidency would be weakened if this thing went down, but the president clearly reinforced the impression the presidency would be damaged by a loss...He was subtle, but that was the underlying theme of the meeting - the importance of passing this for the health of the presidency.” (source)
The health of the Obama presidency. Not the health of American citizens nor the health of the American economy. No, President Obama's incessant, year long push for passage of this monstrous bill, the latest incarnation of which he finally called "my bill" in his interview yesterday with Fox News, is for the health of the Obama presidency.
As we wait for the release of the actual bill which will trigger the "final countdown" to a vote on Obamacare, it's important to realize whose interests are paramount here. Obviously the Obama machine has no concern for what the American people want, poll after poll shows an increasing majority of Americans do not want this bill passed. There is also no concern for what this over-stuffed federal power grab will do to an American health care system that needs minor surgery not major sledge hammering to fix what doesn't work and preserve what makes it the best system in the world.
No, the concern of President Obama is, as always, President Obama. Another Hispanic Caucus member who attended that recent meeting said the president won him over by "essentially [saying] that the fate of his presidency" hinged on this week’s health reform vote in the House. The member, who requested anonymity, likened Obama’s remarks to an earlier meeting with progressives when the president said a victory was necessary to keep him "strong" for the next three years of his term. After a year of on-the-job training as president, Mr. Obama is still just a community organizer who doesn't understand that the actions of others is not what makes a person strong. His shameful bribing and arm twisting of fellow Democrats along with his pathetic performance in yesterday's televised plea to average Americans shows just how weak he truly is regardless of the fate of "his bill".
