Obama Delays Asian Trip Over Health Care Reform

President Obama has delayed his upcoming trip to Guam, Australia and Indonesia by three days to focus even more on trying to push his hugely unpopular and obscenely expensive health care reform bill through the legislative process. Instead of leaving on March 18, his self imposed deadline to the House of Representatives to pass the current Senate bill, he will be leaving on the twenty-first. Granted, the Asian trip did not seem all that important. It was more of a spring break pseudo-vacation for the Obama family including a homecoming of sorts for the president who spent a large chunk of his childhood in Jakarta, Indonesia. But it was an official trip and postponing it, even for a few days, because of what can only be considered political reasons in just one more embarrassing display by this administration.
The only reason the Obama machine is desperate to ram their vision of health care reform through this month is their fear of the people they are sworn to serve. The president and congressional leaders know that the majority of constituents in almost every district are against the comprehensive bill being pushed and are ready to give their elected representatives an earful when they come home for the Easter recess.
That fear coupled with the president's delay of his trip raises the question what exactly will he be doing with those three extra days that he believes will make a difference? Making more useless speeches? Offering bribes and twisting arms in a desperate attempt to get his own party members to vote against the will of their own constituents? Most likely he will just be standing around, as useless as ever, hoping that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and her henchmen can force a few pro-life or fiscally conservative Democrats to vote against their own beliefs in a foolish attempt to save a failing presidency.
No matter what happens in those three days, one thing is all but certain. President Obama will not be leading the nation and will not be working productively on the issues that matter most to the American people.
