Time For Rahm Emanuel To Move On?

In Sally Quinn's Washington Post column this week is a line about President Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel: "Emanuel is said to have told people that the chief-of-staff role is an 18-month job and that he is considering a run for mayor of Chicago." (source) Since Mr. Emanuel is the man the New York Times called "the principal author of Mr. Obama's do-everything-at-once strategy," he might be on his way to the windy city even sooner as the do-everything-at-once-strategy has become the do-everything-wrong strategy, specifically:

Obsessive efforts on health care reform have amounted to nothing but a watered down version of Obamacare that neither the right nor the left want. The American people have soundly rejected it in poll after poll, key senators from the president's own party had to be bribed to vote for it and should it become law, it will only be because the president has pushed congressional leaders to fast-track the bill behind closed doors despite his campaign promises of an open process. (source)
The massive $787 billion economic stimulus bill, which was nothing but a liberal spending spree in disguise, was going to prevent the unemployment rate from reaching 8%. It is now in double digits and, according to the federal Web site that is supposed to track how the stimulus money is being used, millions of those taxpayer dollars have gone to zip codes that don't exist. Cap & Trade legislation which was one of the administration's promises to environmentalists has been exposed as nothing but an exorbitant new tax on anyone who uses energy. (source) Also, the idea of human-caused climate change that was going to motivate people into accepting that tax has been seriously damaged by the recent Climategate scandal and the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen which accomplished less than nothing.
The closing of the prison at Guantanamo Bay by the end of 2009 and the willingness to negotiate directly with rogue nations such as Iran and North Korea have been exposed as the pie-in-the-sky dreams of a naive administration with no grasp of the real world we live in. Al-Qaida backed terrorist attacks continue against the US and our allies and the administration responds with civilian trials for confessed mass murderers and Miranda rights for enemy combatants. Tehran and Pyongyang continue to ignore the weak rhetoric of President Obama as they refuse to give up their nuclear ambitions.
All these horrendous decisions and horrible legislation have contributed to record high deficits, repeated raises in our nation's debt ceiling and what the president himself called a "systematic failure" with regard to our national security. If Rahm Emanuel truly is the driving force behind the way President Obama is governing, he should be the first to walk the plank and heaven help the people of Chicago.
