Grading Obama

When it comes to judging President Obama's fist year in office, the American people have a much different view than the president himself. In an interview with his loyal supporter Oprah Winfrey, Mr. Obama gives himself a "good, solid B-plus." Meanwhile in the latest poll, only 44% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's performance. (source)

Why the big difference of opinion? Let's look at President Obama's own explanations for his high opinion of himself. In the Oprah interview he claims to have stabilized the economy, be on our way out of Iraq, have the best possible plan for Afghanistan, reset our image around the world, "achieved an international consensus for Iran and North Korea to disable their nuclear programs and he thinks "we're going to pass the most significant piece of social legislation since Social Security, and that's health insurance for every American." Really, Mr. President? The unemployment rate is still in double digits despite your promise that your stimulus bill would keep it below 8. Our success in Iraq is due to the continuation of Bush administration policies. Your new plan for Afghanistan has yet to be tested. Your weakening of America's standing in the world with constant apologies, subservient behavior and treating acts of war as common civil crimes is not an improvement of our national image. If you had actually "achieved an international consensus" regarding Iran and North Korea's nuclear programs, sanctions would already be in force and you would not be in the position of begging China and Russia to get on board. And As for your "significant piece of social legislation," don't count your Senators before they have voted, but even if you manage to bully or bribe 60 Senators to vote for Obamacare and somehow get the revised bill past your far left cronies in the House, there's plenty of doubt that your "reform" will be a positive change for the country.
The American people are judging President Obama far more honestly than he is judging himself and his grade continues to drop with each poor decision made and each trillion dollars spent.
