Democrats' $1.1 Trillion Spending Bill Rolls On

While most of the American people are trying to figure out how to afford even a scaled-down holiday season, the Democrats in Congress continue to spend the taxpayers' money like...well...Democrats. They got the 60 Senate votes they needed to prevent a Republican filibuster and are about to pass a $1.1 trillion spending bill that rewards most federal agencies with generous budget increases.

Senator Jon Kyl (R-Arizona) made perfect sense when he said, "Obviously we need to run the government, but do you suppose the government could be a little bit like families and be just a little bit prudent in how much it spends?" But the Democrats aren't about being prudent or doing what's best for the country. They are about doing what's best for themselves and politically the smart thing to do was dish out all the people's money as quickly as they could so that they won't be spending much more when election season draws near.
Imagine if you ran your personal finances the same way - just spend every bit of cash you have and when you run out of that run up those credit card bills until your home is stocked with everything you need for a year. Great plan until you realize you can't pay your mortgage by March and you lose your well-stocked house.
The Democrats are betting on the short memory of the American people. They hope that by the time the 2010 mid-term elections arrive, we will have forgotten that 2009 was the year they squandered our country's financial future in exchange for their own political power. Unfortunately for them and us, the disastrous results of their irresponsible spending will be here to remind us in 2010 and beyond.
