President Obama enjoyed a quiet Thanksgiving at the White House but he did take a break from his holiday to telephone ten US servicemen and women stationed in war zones to thank them for their service. The White House says Obama called two service members from each branch of the armed forces stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Arabian Gulf.(source) What a guy.

Days before Mr. Obama's much anticipated announcement of his new battle plan in Afghanistan which will most likely include putting more of our troops in harm's way, our Commander-in-Chief is phoning it in; going through the motions without any real, personal commitment on his part.
Flashback to Thanksgiving 2003 when then-President George W. Bush made a top-secret, surprise trip to spend Thanksgiving with American troops in Baghdad. One of the handful of journalists who accompanied the president reported the scene: Bush, wearing a military jacket, strode out as troops leapt to their feet and cheered. The president's eyes were moist with tears. "We did not charge hundreds of miles into the heart of Iraq, pay a bitter cost of casualties, defeat a ruthless dictator and liberate 25 million people only to retreat before a band of thugs and assassins," Bush told about 600 soldiers, most of them from the Army's 1st Armored Division and the 82nd Airborne. "I bring a message on behalf of America: We thank you for your service, we are proud of you, and America stands solidly behind you," he said. (source) That's a leader.
But of course President Obama has a jam-packed schedule and probably couldn't find time to jet off to Afghanistan and break bread with those who are fighting what he has repeatedly called "the right war". He's got a lot of planning to do for his upcoming trip to the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen. Then there's the next round of arm twisted on the health care legislation the American people don't want. And let's not forget weaving and dodging the righteous criticism regarding his administration's decision to try the admitted 9/11 mastermind and his accomplices in a civilian court. With all those failing, far-left priorities, I guess the military should be thankful that their Commander-in-Chief found the time to call.
