Obamacare: Like It Or Not Here It Comes

The more the Democrats push their idea of health care reform, the more Americans push back against it. The latest Rasmussen poll shows that just 38% of voters now favor the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. Half of the poll was conducted after the Senate's Saturday night vote to bring the Obamacare bill to the floor for debate. Interestingly support for the plan was slightly lower in that half. (source)

And yet the Democrats push forward in spite of the wishes of the American people. Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) said today, "We prefer to go at it with Republicans if we can reach compromises in some areas. But we're not going to not pass a bill." Translation from political-speak to real-work English: No matter what the Republicans or the American people want, the Democrats are determined to push through President Obama's far-left legislation. His attitude, shared by many of his fellow Democrats in Washington, begs the question exactly who are the representatives in our representative republic representing?
Among the worst elements of the Senate bill: while it would leave 12 million or more eligible Americans uninsured many middle-class families who'd now be required to buy coverage would still find the premiums a stretch, even with government aid. And a new federal fund to provide temporary coverage for people with health problems would quickly run out of cash. (source)
But rather than slow down and work in a non-partisan fashion to draft the kind of health care reform Americans want and need, the Democrats are feverishly rushing through the process so that President Obama can finally claim he has delivered on at least one of his many promises - whether we like it or not.
