It's Official: Obama Doesn't Have A Clue About Afghanistan

White House National Security Adviser Jim Jones issued a statement Monday night confirming that when it comes to the war in Afghanistan, President Obama doesn't have a clue. Prompted by media reports that the Commander-in-Chief had decided to send the 40,000 additional troops requested by General Stanley McChrystal, General Jones denied that a decision had been made and went a few steps further:

"Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false. He has not received final options for his consideration, he has not reviewed those options with his national security team, and he has not made any decisions about resources. Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources." (source)
General McChrystal, the president's hand-picked commander in Afghanistan, made his request almost three months ago when he reported to the president that the US mission was headed for failure without the addition of 40,000 more troops. Now we are told that Mr. Obama has not even reviewed the options? What could he possibly have been doing all this time that was more important than making sure our troops have what they need to accomplish their mission as safely as possible?
Oh right, he was working on the losing political campaigns of other Democrats, twisting the arms of his own party members to get them to support a bill that the majority of Americans (including those in the US Senate) oppose and hoping the violence in Iran (along with their nuclear ambitions) doesn't spread. Busy, busy, busy.
Could it be that those media reports hinting that Mr. Obama had made a decision was an intentional false leak intended to put the issue back on the front burner and push the Commander-in-Chief to actually make a command decision? If so, nice try but it didn't work. In addition to General Jones admission that a decision isn't anywhere close, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Monday that the president was unlikely to announce final plans for Afghanistan until late this month, when he returns from an extended diplomatic trip to Asia. Our troops will just have to wait until he finishes the next leg of his Apologize For America Tour.
