Republican Chris Christie has called his last week of campaigning to defeat incumbent New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine (D) his 'Countdown to Change' tour. He also called his opponent's final week the 'Save me from Myself' tour as Corzine's final events feature President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden. (source) The Democrats seem to be throwing anything and anyone into the mix who might distract voters from the state the state has fallen into during Corzine's time in office.

The Corzine campaign has devolved into pro-Obama rallies interrupted only by explanations and excuses for following Team Obama's advice. In an appearance on CNN's The Situation Room last night, Governor Corzine said it may have been a "good idea" to use different wording in a campaign commercial that spawned accusations he was calling Chris Christie overweight. (source) Not quite an admission of guilt (and political stupidity) for trying to make his opponent's size an issue in a state filled with more than enough real issues, but it's a start.
In addition to Mr. Christie beating Mr. Corzine in the integrity contest, he seems to be outdoing his super-rich opponent on the financial front as well. Despite pouring $22.6 million from his personal fortune into his campaign, Governor Corzine has only $412,410 left in his general election campaign account. Mr. Christie participated in the state's public matching funds program (he received the maximum $7.3 million in public funds and raised an additional $4.4 million from contributors for a total of $11.7 million) and has $2.9 million in available cash to spend on the final days of the campaign. Let's hope the people of New Jersey make the right choice on Tuesday - substance over celebrity and fiscal responsibility over unsustainable spending.
