President Obama will travel to Copenhagen late this week to support Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics. But fear not, according to White House aides his first priority is the ongoing debate in Washington over health care reform and he is determined that his trip to Denmark won't take away from that process. While American troops are in harm's way and the situation in Iran threatens to literally explode, our president's number one priority is to push for a piece of domestic legislation the American people don't want and to help his hometown cronies win their Olympic bid. No other sitting president has ever made this kind of in-person pitch to the International Olympic Committee so just like his appearance on Letterman, Mr. Obama continues to set new precedents and lower the dignity of his office. But his trip won't be all about the games. While in Denmark, Mr. and Mrs. Obama will also meet with Queen Margrethe and the president will meet with Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen of Denmark. Whew! Good thing he's taking the time for that major summit!
According to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, "President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama symbolize the hope, opportunity and inspiration that makes Chicago great, and we are honored to have two of our city's most accomplished residents leading our delegation in Copenhagen." Wrong, Mayor Daley. The president is not a symbol. He's a man who was elected to do a very difficult job and he's refusing to do it while choosing to take on easier and more pleasant tasks.
As he demonstrated last week in front of the United Nations General Assembly and the G20 Summit, Barack Obama is still nothing more than a community organizer. He ignores his military commanders while the country is at war, he offers nothing but weak rhetoric to our enemies and our allies and he continues to downplay international crises while attempting to create domestic ones so he can con his own people into giving him more power over their lives. He has not grown into the position of world leader, he doesn't have the skills or the strength to do the job and there’s little chance of that changing any time soon.
