While our president was yukking it up on Letterman, Iran's president said Monday that he is proud of his recent statements questioning whether the Holocaust was "a real event" and calling it a pretext used by Jews to trick the West into backing the creation of Israel. On Sunday, while Mr. Obama was lying to the American people about how forcing all Americans to purchase health insurance or face a fine is not a tax, the public was learning that our top military commander in Afghanistan warned in a confidential assessment of the war that he needs additional troops within the next year or else the conflict "will likely result in failure." In other news: deadly floods strike Georgia, counterterrorism officials warn of transit system attacks, the G20 summit is just days away and Russia continues to assert its right to sell defensive weapons to Iran. But hey, at least President Obama got serious enough on Letterman to let us know that "Unemployment is still going to be a big problem for at least another year."
Many will say that the president has the time and resources to concentrate on more than one issue in a given day and I agree. But this is not about how thinly he spreads himself. This is about the complete lack of leadership he displays - playing the roll of cool celebrity instead of representing the American people as a strong and serious leader, Neither his policies nor his behavior have been anything close to presidential and we the people need a respected leader, not a popular entertainer.
