Why The Obama Media Blitz?

President Obama will appear on five of the Sunday morning talk shows this week. Of course he won't be appearing on the one network where he might have to face tough questions (FoxNews) but he is taping interviews with ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Univision and will make the first appearance ever by a sitting president on David Letterman's "Late Show" on Monday.

So why the media blitz? White House aides say Obama agreed to the interviews in order to reach as many people as possible with his health care reform message. (source) But is there anyone who hasn't already heard his tired old pitch that will be watching Sunday morning news programs? And is there anyone who will be watching Letterman that hasn't already heard the pitch yet wants to hear it?
I'd like to think he's granting all these interviews because he has something new (and better) to say on the subject of health care reform. But alas, he does not. He will utter the same sound bytes, tell the same self-serving stories and use the same twisted language as usual to try and fool the American people into believing Obamacare is a good idea. I doubt even he believes these campaign speeches disguised as interviews will help his cause. But he just can't seem to stop himself from blathering on and on.
It would be nice if just one of the alleged journalists on these programs would take the opportunity to ask for the details of the plan and how the president plans to pay for his reforms without increasing the deficit or raising taxes on the middle class.
And while they're at it they could ask about his un-vetted czars, his association with ACORN, his plans to protect our country's interests and its allies now that he has scrapped the Eastern European missile defense plan, his response to the IAEA report that Iran has the capacity to build a nuclear bomb and is working on a delivery system; you know, minor issues like that. But in reality they will simply sit there looking on adoringly as they listen to the same old stump speech on health care reform and, once the "interviews" are over, President Obama will retreat back into hiding from any reporter who would dare to ask a tough question.
