Everyone But The President Is Talking About ACORN

In light of recent scandals and ongoing investigations, the Senate voted 83-7 on Monday to forbid ACORN from receiving federal housing grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. (source) Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) has called for an "immediate and thorough" investigation of the group. (source) the Census Bureau has severed its ties with the group whose members had been hired to do canvassing during the 2010 census. And yet President Obama refuses to make any public statement regarding this obviously corrupt organization.

Why should he? Well, since the liberal media refuses to report on ACORN's nefarious activities until they are shamed into it by FoxNews and 20-something filmmakers with hidden cameras, many may have forgotten the very long history Mr. Obama has with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). During the presidential campaign he did his best to downplay his connections to the organization but it was relatively easy for the GOP to provide the facts to anyone who would listen. All the details are available in an October 4, 2008 press release but some of the highlights are:
- Barack Obama Taught Classes For Future Leaders Of ACORN
- Barack Obama Was Part Of Team Of Lawyers Who Represented ACORN In A Suit Against The State Of Illinois
- Barack Obama’s Campaign Paid More Than $800,000 To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts
- While Barack Obama Served On The Board Of Directors Of The Woods Fund, ACORN Received Thousands Of Dollars Of Grants From The Organization
Just imagine what any past president (Republican or Democrat) would be facing from the mainstream media if they were similarly associated with an organization as allegedly corrupt and scandal-riddled as ACORN. The demand for that president to make a public statement on the issue would be deafening. But as with so many other circumstances during this presidency, there are special rules for Mr. Obama and he is protected from any potentially unpleasant situation. How much longer can he hide?
