Here's Something Fishy That Needs Flagging

Quick! Somebody report a serious piece of disinformation being spread about Obamacare! In his staged town hall meeting Tuesday afternoon President Obama said "“We have the AARP on board because they know this is a good deal for our seniors." Just to be sure we got the point, later during the same event he said, "Another myth that we've been hearing about is this notion that somehow we're going to be cutting your Medicare benefits. We are not. AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare, okay?” (source) Great selling point for his health care reform plan if only it wasn't a blatant lie.

Tom Nelson, AARP's chief operating officer, quickly responded saying, "Indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate." (source)
The AARP has been taking heat from some of its members at their own town hall meetings for what a spokesperson concedes are some provisions in the legislation that the organization has backed. (source) But that is far from the president's outrageously false claims today that the organization is "on board" and "endorsing a bill".
In addition to this being yet another betrayal of the public trust by the administration, it is also another example of the mainstream media dropping the ball. Had any past president (Democrat or Republican) told such a blatant lie in such a public setting it would be headline news across all channels. But it was merely a footnote today in the coverage of President Obama's pre-packaged presentation. Today we watched our president and the media show their true character. Perhaps it was worth it if the leadership of the AARP learned a lesson about who they can trust.
