Is Virginia Getting A Political Makeover?

With just fourteen weeks until Election Day in Virginia, it looks like it will be a Republican sweep for statewide offices. Republicans are leading by double digits in the race for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General according to the latest SurveyUSA poll. In the Governor's race, Republican Bob McDonnell would defeat Democrat Creigh Deeds 55% to 40%.
In the Lieutenant Governor's race, Republican Bill Bolling would defeat Democrat Jody Wagner 54% to 42%
In the Attorney General's race, Republican Ken Cuccinelli would defeat Democrat Steve Shannon 53% to 42%.
Current Virginia Governor Tim Kaine is a Democrat so this makes Virginia yet another state that looks to be making a sharp right turn just six months into the Obama presidency.
Mr. McDonnell has proposed robust coal and petroleum production statewide and highlighted opposition to the Democratic-backed "cap & trade energy bill in Congress and the pro-labor Employee Free Choice Act, or "card check bill," that he says could weaken Virginia laws forbidding union membership as a condition of employment. (source) Those conservative positions certainly seem to be resonating with the voters of Virgina.
