Azadi! Azadi!

Tens of thousands of Iranian citizens continue to risk all by demanding freedom and fairness from their oppressive government. Even as that government used tear gas on the crowds and took away dozens to who knows where, the protesters held their ground chanting "azadi, azadi" (Persian for "freedom") during a speech by former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. Rafsanjani denounced the government crackdown on protests and called for the release of the hundreds detained. (source)

It's understandable that most of the Ameican people may have forgotten about the Iranians' struggles. Our media has been very busy with the details of celebrity deaths and promoting the administration's latest massive tax increases (euphemistically called "cap & trade" and "health care reform"). But there really are people in this world bravely struggling to improve their own lives.
I've given up hope that President Obama will offer even moral support to the people of Iran. In a recent speech Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reaffirmed the administration's interest in engaging the Iranian oppressors in discussions despite calling the crackdown on dissent "deplorable and unacceptable". (source) Evidently their dictionary differs from mine with regard to what the word unacceptable means.
I just hope that regular Americans are keeping those protesters in their thoughts and prayers. It may not be long before we need their moral support in our fight against our own government's oppression.
