President Obama Fails His Own Empathy Test

When discussing his criteria for a Supreme Court Justice less than a month ago President Obama said "I view that quality of empathy, of understanding and identifying with people's hopes and struggles, as an essential ingredient for arriving at just decisions and outcomes." Evidently that is not a quality he requires of himself. This weekend President and Mrs. Obama privately jetted to New York City at taxpayer expense for a "date night" of dinner and a Broadway show. By now everyone has heard Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor's infamous quote from a 2001 speech she gave at the law school of the University of California, Berkeley:
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life," (source)
Is The Media Creating A Supreme Firestorm?

Whenever any US President nominates a prospective Supreme Court Justice, a legislative process begins by which the Senate holds a confirmation hearing (see Article II, Section 2 of the US Constitution). Yet because the Senate (including its minority Republican members) is currently preparing for Judge Sonia Sotomayor's hearing, the media would have us believe this will be a unique and highly combative event.

Following a second nuclear weapon test, restarting its weapons-grade nuclear plant in Yongbyon, and test firing multiple missiles; the world has once again focused its attention on North Korea.
An official member of the "Axis of Evil", North Korea is perhaps the last Soviet-style communist regime still in existence. In the last fifteen years, the "dear leader" Kim Jung-Il has done little for his countrymen. Starvation, mandatory labor, poverty, forced abortions and power shortages are just a handful of the issues that the DPRK currently has to contend with.

Remember that wonderful Obama campaign promise not to raise the taxes of any American making less than $250,000 a year? Remember all those nutty conservatives saying that it would be impossible for the new president to keep that promise while ramming through all his liberal spending policies? Guess who was right.
