Regarding the recent public thawing of relations between the US and Cuba/Venezuela, I'm surprised at how many people seem to think this is either harmless posturing or a good sign for future diplomatic efforts. What many fail to realize is that while we live in a relatively free country and understand the insignificance of a handshake or small talk with an enemy, countries like Venezuela (and Iran and North Korea, etc.) are not free societies. Those who oppose the oppression under which they currently live might very well see this "thawing of relations" with their oppressors as a stab in the back (or heart). Those who don't realize they are being oppressed because they have been lied to by their government their entire lives will be emboldened in their hatred by seeing the US President submitting to the charm/power of their own leader. Basically President Obama is handing our enemies a new propaganda tool every day. And while that doesn't rise to the level of treason, it does give aid to those who have sworn to see us destroyed.
